Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. Two of her earliest television appearances were as Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother played her role. She did not explore acting as a profession until after she had reached adulthood, as her parents were afraid of the negative effects that stress could cause. Perry says she didn't want to perform in highschool but decided to start playing as a way to make friends at Northwestern University when she switched to the university from Boston University. Perry started her acting career in New York after graduation, performing in minor parts in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry come back to California and pursue a career as a stage actress. Perry's mother and I appeared on Broadway as a couple in The Other Place, in 2013. The show featured their father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 in The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry played a role in 9 episodes of The Family, an ABC drama The Family in 2016. Perry was a regular character in the ABC drama about politics Scandal, starring her dad. That same year she played a young model of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother in a youthful version. Despite having a family connection to the character, she was offered the part through an audition.
